What's Matcha?
Matcha is one of the finest Japanese green teas. The powdered tea is extremely complex to produce and is one of the highest quality teas in the world! Unlike other green teas, you don't just drink the extract of the tea leaves, but the whole leaf - including all its ingredients and antioxidants.
Matcha originally has its roots in China. Centuries ago, however, a Zen monk brought the knowledge to Japan. There, the production and preparation of Matcha was perfected and integrated into the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Nowadays, Kyoto and Kagoshima are among the most important regions where matcha of the highest quality is cultivated.
Effects of Matcha
Matcha contains more caffeine than other types of green tea. However, the reaction is different to that of coffee: the caffeine in matcha tea is bound to secondary plant substances and is therefore only released in the intestine. The combination of caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine in matcha tea ensures relaxation and at the same time more concentration and alertness.
About our Matcha
Our Ceremonial Grade Matcha comes directly from Kyoto, Japan. It is obtained from the youngest leaves of the first harvest and carefully ground into a powder with a bright green color. Its taste is characterized by a mixture of vegetal sweetness and umami.
