Matcha is a finely ground type of green tea that originated in Japan. It is made from shade tea leaves, which are ground into a fine powder.

Traditionally, Matcha is prepared by mixing the powder with hot water and then whisking it with a bamboo whisk. It can also be used in smoothies, lattes and various dishes.

General preparation of Matcha explained in short steps:

  • Prepare the sieve and bowl: Sieve the matcha powder to avoid lumps and warm the matcha bowl with hot water.
  • Add the Matcha powder: Add an appropriate amount of Matcha powder to the preheated bowl. The recommended amount is approximately Gotcha Matcha measuring spoon, but may vary depending on your personal taste.
  • Add water: Pour the hot water (70-80°C) over the Matcha powder. Use about 60-80 ml of water, depending on the desired strength.
  • Mixing/foaming: Use a Chasen (bamboo whisk) to mix the Matcha powder thoroughly and foam it up. Form an M-shaped motion until a creamy foam is created.
  • Enjoy: Your Matcha is ready. You can now enjoy it with milk/plant-based milk alternatives or on its own.
